The Voters apologize for how late this is. They have been very busy this week deliberating on how high Boston College should be in their Poll.
Before we get into it, the Voters would like to acknowledge some other rankings that are trying to emulate (steal) the AB’s model.
Danny Kanell’s rankings, which are “earned not gifted.” While the Voters wish they thought of that catchy slogan, Mr. Kanell’s rankings are certainly not earned. The Voters were quite confused when they saw Michigan at 9 after they struggled against Fresno State. And it’s only a top 12? Please. Talk about lazy.
Kelley Ford’s Most Deserving Rankings. While the Voters respect and admire the work that Mr. Ford does in the world of analytics, his Most Deserving rankings are good, but not great. They are algorithmically driven, which means they don’t take into account the Eye Test, which is extremely important (see the 5th Commandment). Remarkably though, Mr Ford’s rankings had the same top 9 as the AB Poll (albeit in a different order). While Mr. Ford’s rankings are good, the algorithm doesn’t have the astute wisdom and keen judgment of the Voters.
The JP Poll. Josh Pate blatantly stole the Voters’ bit for a name and should be ashamed of himself. As an aside, his rankings are awful. That’s all the Voters have to say about that.
Now that that’s taken care of, here is the Poll!
The Rankings
1 - Miami Hurricanes - The Voters felt that Miami, all in all, had the most impressive week 1 with their dominant performance in the Swamp. They led the nation in the eye test and Cam Ward looked the part.
2 - Georgia Bulldogs - The Voters were very impressed by Georgia’s resounding victory over Clemson and considered putting the Dawgs at #1. They want to give other teams the chance to be #1 sometimes.
6 - Boston College Eagles - Many are discrediting BC and Georgia Tech for their wins, saying that Florida State just stinks. The Voters will reserve their judgment and would instead like to credit Boston College for their excellent road win.
7 - Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets - With that being said, FSU’s performance Monday Night did drop the Jackets from 2 to 7.
13 - Iowa Hawkeyes - Iowa scored more points than they did all of last season. BIG10, watch out.
14-25 - A bunch of teams that won by a lot.
AB Game of the Week
This week the Voters are unveiling their new, weekly AB Game of the Week. This week, it is the only matchup between ranked teams:
#23 Mississippi State @ #25 Arizona State
10:30 EST on ESPN! SEC/Big12 after dark!
AB Poll of the Week
Also new this week is the AB Poll of the week:
Let the Voters know your thoughts in the comments!
It’s a shame how many people have tried to rip off the sacred AB Poll. They’re just jealous that they don’t have such sound commandments that anchor the foundation of the poll. An algorithm? Come on.
The AB Poll has superb rankings. Everything makes sense logically, and the eye test is a necessary factor to be taken into consideration. After all, you can’t be trusted to rank teams if you just look at the stats and results. A true fan and critic must watch the game with their own two eyes, and that’s exactly what I see with the voters of the AB Poll.
Needless to say, I’m proud to be an early supporter of the AB Poll. I can’t wait until the AP Poll and CFP Committee are both abolished and the AB Poll reigns supreme.
who is Kirk Herbstreit? & can you include a picture of the dog in next week's poll?
